“We need the tonic of wildness...At the same time that we are earnest to explore and learn all things, we require that all things be mysterious and unexplorable, that land and sea be indefinitely wild, unsurveyed and unfathomed by us because unfathomable. We can never have enough of nature.”

Things I miss about Melbourne

By 21:03 , ,

I have been in Iceland for two months today, which is completely surreal.  The last week brought a flu I'm still shaking off, and there's nothing like getting sick to make you miss home.

I miss Melbourne's food.  Nicholas got back and started messaging me pictures of Lord of the Fries, of Smith & Daughters, of late night stop-offs at Prahran Convenience Store.  And now Smith & Deli is finally open too! We eat vegan when we're at home, and I'm missing a plethora of delicious vegan treats.

I miss the museum.  Melbourne Museum doesn't rank particularly highly after going to some of the museums I visited this year, but it does feel like home.  During university, the museum was only ever a walk away - and had free entry for students - so was the perfect place to sit and draw, or plan my projects.

I miss Lush.  Oh god, I miss Lush.  With the excitement of Christmas releases and Halloween goodies, I'm missing my magical little Lush store out in the Melbourne 'burbs so much.  Luckily, I'll be stopping by London on my way home and will finally be taking a squizz at Oxford St.

I miss my apartment.  ... she says after not having seen her new apartment IRL.  I've seen lots of pictures! I already miss it!  The location is amazing, and it's got a bath tub.  Do you need anything else?  No.

I miss giving naive tourists directions.  Melbourne was the first city I had to navigate on my own (after moving there at 18) and I know it like the back of my hand.  I got lost almost daily, but have a mental map to rival Google Maps now.  Spending almost every day in the city, I'm constantly asked to give directions, and I actually kind of love it.

I miss my cat.  More than all of the things on this list (except maybe the food...) I miss my Puck.  My mischievous little cat is currently residing with my mum on the Gold Coast, but he'll be flown back down to Melbourne when I get back.  I can't wait to cuddle up to him and stroke his little cat paws.

I miss the Nick.  Skype doesn't cut it.  I miss Nicholas.
